Eligibility
Head of Household must be 62 years old or handicapped/disabled
Section 202 of the Housing Act of 1959 authorized HUD to provide direct loans to serve elderly families and individuals. Occupancy of such projects is limited to elderly individuals 62 years of age or older and to families where the head of household or spouse is 62 years of age or older, except for accessible units designed for the mobility impaired. Both elderly and non-elderly handicapped individuals or families whose head of household or spouse is mobility impaired and requires the accessibility features of such a unit, are eligible to occupy such accessible units in a Section 202 Direct Loan project for the elderly.
